Sarah reviewed Mike’s upcoming home and auto renewals. His HO-3 policy renews May 1 with a 6% premium increase driven by state-level rate filings. A small $1,200 water-damage claim from February is on file but will not materially impact renewal. Mike expressed interest in adding a $1M personal umbrella given his new side business, and asked Sarah to re-quote auto with a $1,000 collision deductible.

Hey Mike, thanks for carving out time today. I wanted to walk you through the home and auto renewals coming up May 1st, flag a couple of things I noticed on the loss run, and get your thoughts on the umbrella conversation we started last quarter.
Yeah, of course. Honestly the umbrella is the main thing on my mind. I finally filed the LLC last month for the consulting side gig, and my buddy said I’d be crazy not to have at least a million in umbrella if I’m doing that.
Your buddy’s right. A $1M umbrella is inexpensive relative to what it protects — typically $200 to $300 a year at your underlying limits. Before I quote it, I need two things: the LLC formation docs and a rough estimate of annual revenue from the consulting work. Underwriting uses that to confirm it’s a qualifying personal umbrella versus needing a separate commercial policy.
Easy. I’ll send both over tonight. What’s the home renewal looking like?
About a 6% bump this cycle. It’s almost entirely driven by the state rate filing that got approved in February — not a reflection of your loss history. Speaking of which, the $1,200 water-damage claim from last February is on the loss run, but at that size it doesn’t push you into surcharge territory, and carrier-side it’s already been reserved and closed.
Got it. And the auto? Can we rework the deductibles? I think I have $500 collision right now and I’d rather go $1,000 to bring the premium down.
Yep, that makes sense for you — you’re a cash-flow-positive household and $500 extra out-of-pocket on a rare event is fine. I’ll requote $1,000 collision, keep comprehensive at $500. I’ll also drop the roadside rider since you’ve got it through your credit card. Should shave another $9 or $10 a month. I’ll send the quote by Friday.
Perfect. Oh, and switch me to paperless. Saving the trees and also my kitchen counter.
Done. I’ll flip paperless on today and double-check that the EFT we have on file is still the right account for auto-draft on renewal. You’ll get confirmation emails from the carrier for both.
Awesome. Thanks Sarah — talk soon.
